The Ouagadougou festival opens with focus on cultural identities

According to the festival director, Wend-lassida Ouedraogo, the main objective of this event is to contribute to the promotion and safeguarding of cultural wealth in the path of disappearance. “Festic will allow us to discover the cultures of different communities through cinema,” says Mr. Ouedraogo.
20 films including 14 documentaries and 6 fictions from several African countries, made by 10 men and 10 women, were selected. With film projection being the main activity of this festival, each projection will be followed by an exchange with the audience, in the presence of some directors.
Another flagship activity is the night of resistance which is a framework for thinking about how to practice art nowadays and to understand culture. According to the artistic director of the festival Perfect Tabapsi, some films reveal the experiences and cultural richness of different communities. Others focus on fragmented identities in the urban environment. “They were all chosen for their originality, the relevance of their remarks in relation to the theme of the festival, their technical qualities,” he explained.
