Adut Akech: The Sudanese gazelle that puts the fashion world at her feet

She is nominated for “Model of the Year” 2018. The awards ceremony takes place on December 10th

She became the second black woman to close Chanel’s Couture parade last July in Paris. Chosen by Karl Lagerfeld, she was dressed in the traditional bridal gown worn by star-dedicated dummies/models. For two seasons and thanks to her atypical beauty, Adut Akech has turned fashion world. Her shiny ebony complexion, enhanced by her hubcap smile, captivates the clichés. A magic coming from southern Sudan only 18 years ago…

She is only 12 years old when she is spotted by Elite France who puts her in touch with Anthony Vaccarello, young artistic director at Yves Saint Laurent. This meeting opens the doors for strasses and glitters. She will then multiply campaigns and appearances on Catwalks. In New York, she shone with Tom Ford, Bottega Veneta and Calvin Klein. In London, we see her on the podiums of JW Anderson, Simone Rocha, Burberry. Just like in Milan, we saw her at Versace, Fendi and Prada. These last seasons, she has paraded with Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Givenchy, Valentino and Dries Van Noten.

Her uniqueness on the podium explains her nomination for “Model of the Year” at the British Fashion Awards alongside Adwoa Abbey, Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Winnie Harlow. The award ceremony takes place on December 10th.
