The tennis champion displays Cornrows on the cover of the Teen Vogue magazine of December 2018. A first in the history of this publication.

Serena Williams entered history as the first woman to wear braids on the cover of Teen Vogue magazine.

Aged 37 years, the youngest of the Williams sisters wears braids on the cover of the December edition of the magazine. She wears a voluminous coral jacket and golden earrings. Serena has been wearing these braids for years, both on and off the tennis court. The mother also wore them at the princely wedding of her friend Meghan Markle last May.

This new edition was the first cover created under the direction of the new editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, Lindsay Peoples Wagner, who is the youngest black editor of a major publication. The magazine was pleased to have posted “Cornrows” on the cover for the first time in its history. This edition is a message for young black women, so they should be proud of what they are.
