The Essence Festival, known as “the party with a purpose”, is an annual music festival which started in 1995 as a one-time event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Essence, a magazine aimed primarily towards African-American women…
The Essence Festival lasts for three days, which are filled with activities which include conventions, motivational conferences, and musical performances. The event gathers over 500,000 people. It is the largest event celebrating African-American culture and music in the United States.
This year’s edition was graced by several high profiled African Americans from all works of life including former first lady; Michelle Obama, Iyanla Vanzant, Tyler Perry, LeToya Luckett, Keri Hilson, Michelle Williams and many more.
We noticed that both men and women came through wearing very bold colors, notably Ankara and Ankara-Inspired fabrics. Patterns, especially floral patterns, were also trending.
