Spike Lee finally wins his first Oscar nomination as Director
The director of “Blackkklansman” was also nominated for the Golden Globes this year.
The news is important enough to be debated on. Spike Lee, an accomplished Hollywood filmmaker, wins his first Oscar nomination as director. Thirty years after “Do the Right Thing”, which revealed him to the public, Spike Lee shook the film industry with his movie “Blackkklansman”.
The film speaks of an America in the years 70 where blacks remain persecuted by the Klu Klux Klan. In the midst of this hatred, an African-American policeman, the first of the local unit manages to infiltrate the racist movement. The plot is sewn on a true story. The film is also the adaptation of the book by Ron Stallworth (name of the main character of the film) published in 2014. The film was awarded the Grand Prix du Festival de Cannes in 2018.
Spike Lee has been nominated in the category of ‘ best Director ‘ at the Golden Globes this year. He might have more luck at the Oscars where he is in competition with Adam McKay (Vice), Pawel Pawlikowski (Cold War), Alfonson Cuaron (Roma) and Yorgos Lanthimos (the favourite). The absence noted in this category is that of Bradley Cooper, for the film “A Star Is Born”.
The 91st edition of the Oscars ceremony takes place on February 24th.
