“Supa Modo” wins the Sembène Ousmane award at the Khourigba African Film Festival
The Kenyan production received the highest distinction of the 21st edition of the said Festival.
The African film Festival of Khourigba ended last Saturday in Morocco. It saw the distinction of many productions of the continent. The Grand Prix “Sembène Ousmane”, the highest distinction of the event, went to the film “Supa Modo” by Likarion Wainaina. This 74-minute film tells the story of a 9-year-old girl obsessed with action movies, who dreams of becoming a super heroin. Seriously ill, the girl is overprotected, but receives help from the population to fulfil her dream.
“Fatwa”, of Tunisian Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud was awarded the Jury Prize “Samir Farid”, while the prize for Best Screenplay was awarded to the Rwandan film “La clémence de la jungle” by director Joel Karekezis. The South African feature film “Les Missionneurs” earned its Director Etienne Kallos, the “Idrissa Ouédraogo” award for Best performance. While the award for the first male role “Mohamed Bastaoui” was awarded to the Franco-Tunisian actor, Sami Bouajila, for his interpretation in the Algerian film “Les bienheureux”.
For her part, the young Moroccan actress Khouloud won the prize of the first female role for her role in the film “Indigo”. The second male role award came back to actor Stéphane Bak for his role in the Rwandan feature film “La clémence de la Jungle” and actress Lyna Khoudri was awarded the second female role award for her performance in the film “Les Bienheureux “. The “Don Quichtte” award, awarded by the National Federation of Cine-Clubs in Morocco, went to the Zambian film “I Am not a witch”.
