Frieda Ekotto, Honorary President of the International Trans-Sahara Film Festival
The Cameroonian novelist and philosopher was chosen for her positive and inspiring career for the younger generations.
The 15th Trans-Sahara International Film Festival in Zagora (Morocco) was launched onDecember 13, 2018. As an annual event devoted to the theme of space, Zagora’s Trans-Saharan International Film Festival is an opportunity for many enthusiasts to see and interact with actors and other professionals in the industry (directors, writers, producers, etc.).
This year, the organization of this festival has appointed Frieda Ekotto as Honorary President. The choice of the Cameroonian writer and philosopher was needed, according to Ahmed Chahid, the director of the Festival, quoted by Moroccan media. It was a way of “recognizing an African woman who has imposed herself in the American university as a researcher, novelist and philosopher, giving a very positive image of African women’s energies and potentialities. The goal is also to consolidate this cultural and intellectual opening on the African scene.
In addition to serving as Head of Department of African American Studies and African Studies at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor (USA), Frieda Ekotto also teaches in the Department of Comparative Literatures, followed by the Department of French and French Literatures. .
The Zagora International Trans-Sahara Film Festival will end on December 17th.
