“Miss Cameroon”: The Minac expected to deliver
It must have been a long night for Ingrid Solange Amougou, president of the Miss Cameroon organizing Committee (Comica), an entity which, until yesterday, was charged with the annual election of the most beautiful girl in the country. A situation probably hard to swallow for this woman who has never been unanimous…
Faced with accusations of all sorts, even by the elected misses inclusive, Ingrid Solange Amougou has, since the first edition of this competition, suffered criticisms bringing her honesty and integrity to question. A reputation amplified by the numerous scandals that shone the beauty contest in each of its editions. Some have resulted in punchlines through the Medias.
This seems to have helped discredit the Comica in the eyes of the Cameroonian government, which remained passive for thirteen editions. On Thursday, December 20, two days after the launching of press conference of the Miss Cameroon 2019 edition organized by Ingrid Solange Amougou and her team, the minister of Arts and Culture of Cameroon signed a press release dismissing all Private initiative to have a Miss Cameroon elected.
We had been accustomed to the amateurism of the organization of this beauty contest. Even in a deadpan situation, it was obvious to know in advance how it would end, even when the comica was full of resources in a rather ridiculous way. We were entertained to all kinds of insanity. However, did the Cameroonian government have to go on like this? Is no doubt a question most divided on. Faced with the evidence of a necessary change of methods in the organization of this beauty competition, some cultural operators are indignant, arguing that the comica just needed a reframing. To what the officials of the Ministry of Arts and Culture (Minac) answered mysteriously, that certain secrets must remain. But, however say, for the image of Cameroon, Ingrid Solange Amougou and her team could not continue in this way.
However, all these are just but speculations. The builder will be judged at the foot of the wall. Didn’t the government of Benin do the same thing a year ago? The only advice to the good-thinking people of the Republic of Cameroon would be to professionalize the organization of the election of the most beautiful Cameroonian girl. The smartest move would be to recruit an agency with a respectable state of service for the event. Frankly, who would not think about it? In any case, the Minac should in its best interest do much, much, yes much better than the Comica. Otherwise, she is going to get a big blow on the face. The only problem, in this eventuality, is that no one will die, and therefore life will continue…
Cameroon is now counting on the government to restore its image. The same one (government) who could not preserve the organization of 2019 edition of the African Cup of Nations, despite all assurances given here and there. The parallel may seem harsh, but the shame inflicted on the Cameroonian people after the withdrawal of the organization of this competition is nothing compared to that which it would feel if the next Miss Cameroon election was to be a fiasco.
