Skin Bleaching has become a trending phenomenon among African Women in recent decades. Statistics compiled by the World Health Organisation in 2011, showed that 40% of African Women bleach their skin.
These days we see some popular women giving up bleaching to return to their dark skin. One of them is Kenyan Beauty Entrepreneur; Vera Sidika. To the amazement of her fans, Vera released new photos which showed her darker than she had always appeared to be.
She posted the photos with the caption:
“Never be defined by your past …it was just a lesson, not a life sentence.
Feels good to be back!!
Black don’t crack
#backtoblack #missedmymelanin #stillbeautiful #blackbarbie”
Cameroonian Bikutsi Artiste; Mani Bella, did same as she revealed that she is advocating for women to maintain their natural skin tones instead of bleaching their skin. As one who has bleached her skin before she is advising against it because of the damaging health consequences it has on women.
We applaud this gesture, women should feel beautiful just the way they are!
