This is the first time that an African film has won this award since its creation in 1979.

Dieudonné Hamadi has just taken an important step in his career. With “Mother Colonel”, his last feature film, the Congolese filmmaker has just won the Grand Prix of real cinema 2017 in Paris. This is the first time that an African film has been awarded the “Réel” award since its creation in 1979.

“Mother Colonel”, has greatly affected the audience of the Cinema du Réel 2017 for the topics discussed/raised (assistance, solidarity, courage, reconstruction, etc.). “Thank you for your commitment,” said a much/very moved spectator.

From the beginning of the film, we walk in the step of Mother Colonel. Within the Congolese police, she has ensured for fifteen years the protection of children and the fight against sexual violence in South Kivu (DRC). And when she was told that she had been transferred from Bukavu to Kisangani, she had to reassure the women she had supported all these years and that she was about to leave. “It’s going to be okay! » she said to them in a composed voice, and this without letting anything appear of the emotion that embraces her. »If you leave, who will help us? » they replied in chorus.

Once at her new post, Mother Colonel, courageous and fearless is faced with new challenges.
