The loincloth in all its states in Yaounde
This is the philosophy of the fourth edition of the event “Le Pagne en Folie”. Organized by Cameroonian brands, it has the ambition to show local know-how.
From December 13 to 15, 2018, the city of Yaoundé will host the 4th edition of the event “Le Pagne en Folie”. It is an exhibition and sale of various accessories made from loincloth. Also, there will be clothes, jewels, bags, decorative accessories and even raw loincloth.
A reflexive component has been included in the 2018 edition of “Le Pagne en Folie”, under the theme “The loincloth and its variations: local productions facing the challenges of the global market”. This problem will be broken down into two workshops, one on the requirements of the market and the other on the channels to use to internationalize its sales channel. But before, a conference-debate is scheduled on December 13, the day of the opening of the show, on “the place of African loincloth in the global market, today.”
At the end of this fourth edition of the “Pagne en Folie”, exhibitors and visitors should leave with a new perspective of their activities or their relationship to the loincloth.
The concept has the ambition to show all the ways to use the loincloth, in order to deconstruct the idea that, the stuff is only used to be worn. A chic and accessible loincloth, for oneself and for oneself. The loincloth as a way of life. This is the leitmotiv of the promoters, Alvine Touomou, Liliane Bebay and Nelson Touomou. Each of them holds a brand that highlights the loincloth.
Alvine of “la Caverne d’Al” is specialized in interior decoration. Liliane promotes the ready-to-wear brand Rafiki. Nelson, a public works engineer, has been developing DNA clothing for a few years. All have at heart to share the Cameroonian know-how first in their country, then outside. A militant approach for these little hands, who want the loincloth industry in Cameroon to be better built and more competitive on an African scale.
A dozen young designers have been invited to exhibit at the “Pagne en Folie 2018”. A weaver will be present on the site to illustrate the local artisanal production of traditional fabrics of the Bamoun people.
Successful creators like Defustel Ndjoko or Anna Ngann support this young project with big dreams.
