Sidiki Bakaba at the Fespaco  2019

It is announced in the official delegation of his country, Ivory Coast where he was received this week after seven years of exile in France…

The filmmaker and former director of the Cultural Center in Treichville (Abidjan) is announced in Ouagadougou in a few weeks. He will be taking part in the 26th edition of the Fespaco which will be held from 23rd February to  02nd March 2019. That’s at least what the Ivorian press has been reporting for a few days.

As a matter of fact, he met Maurice Kay Bandaman, the Ivorian minister of Culture and La Francophonie, last Monday 19 November at his office. The filmmaker had not set foot in his native country, Ivory Coast, since 2011.

Close to Laurent Gbagbo, Sidiki Bakaba had to exile himself to France after the post-election crisis that led to the arrest of the former President of Côte d’ivoire and his wife. Present at the time of this arrest, Sidiki Bakaba had also been wounded.

Last Monday, Maurice Kouakou Bandaman announced that Sidiki Bakaba will be part the official Ivorian delegation expected in Ouagadougou on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Fespaco. The return of Sidiki Bekaba and his involvement in the cultural life of his country are interpreted as a sign of reconciliation with the regime in place. The man said he was proud to have been able to return to Ivory Coast.
